Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and AMD Global Telemedicine Inc., expand telemedicine program throughout Texas

AMD Global Telemedicine Inc., supplies medical peripherals to the successful installations of 3 additional sites to expand Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center’s advancing telemedicine program.

For over 10 years, AMD Global Telemedicine has worked closely with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) to implement telemedicine.

TTUHSC currently operates telemedicine sites in 15 state prisons and 11 community settings. In total, Doctor’s participating in TTUHSC telemedicine treat 400-450 patients per month. The telemedicine equipment was recently installed at the Amarillo, Friona, and Wellington Texas sites which will allow these communities access to specialty care services. Further, these new sites create tremendous strategic value for outreach to their respective communities in the remaining 24 counties of the Panhandle.

The accessibility of telemedicine is important for residents living in extremely rural parts of the state. This enables citizens to easily obtain access to healthcare without the stress of traveling great distances for care.

Mark Watts, Telemedicine Technology Manager at TTUHSC has played a critical role in the success of this program. He continues to identify and implement the appropriate technology to meet the needs of the program based upon the medical challenges throughout the state.

“There is endless opportunity throughout Texas for telemedicine due to the distance barriers and remoteness of each rural county within the state. Telemedicine is the perfect solution,” stated Watts. “Working with AMD has been a great opportunity and we have been very successful in the implementation of the program thus far. We currently have two new projects in the works, which include a total of 30 additional sites and we look forward to continuing our work with AMD.”

Steve Normandin, President of AMD Global Telemedicine stated, “The telemedicine program at Texas Tech is truly an example of how convenient and opportune telemedicine can really be. We have enjoyed working with Texas Tech and are eager to continue doing so. I am confident that with the help of our equipment we can rid tremendous barriers in Texas in order to provide more efficient health care to the entire state.”
