AMD Telemedicine Receives 1st Annual ATA Industry Council Award for Leadership in Telemedicine Advancement – BY THE HOME CARE AUTOMATION REPORT 2006

At last week’s annual meeting of the American Telemedicine Association in San Diego, the Washington, DC-based association introduced a new series of awards to recognition those individuals and organizations that have taken a leadership role in advancing the development and use of telehealth systems. Mark VanderWerf, President and Steve Normandin, Vice President of AMD Telemedicine became the first recipients of the “Industry Council Award For Leadership in the Advancement of Telemedicine.”

The annual award recognized VanderWerf and Normandin for their individual leadership and championship at local, national and international level in promoting and advocating for telemedicine/telehealth and e-health. “Vanderwerf and Normandin have been involved in shaping the future of telemedicine for almost 15 years,” ATA president Thelma McClosky Armstrong said in presenting the award. “They have been active members of the American Telemedicine Association from the beginning as President’s Circle Corporate Members and as anchor exhibitors and sponsors of the ATA Annual Meeting.”

Steve Normandin served as Chair of the ATA Industry Council from 2002 – 2004 and was instrumental in transforming the role of industry within the association, working to create a partnership with clinical, academic and program members. Mark VanderWerf is internationally regarded as one of the leading authorities on deploying telemedicine to remote areas.
