Chelmsford, MA, March 24, 2014 – AMD Global Telemedicine Inc. (AMD), the world’s leading supplier of clinical Telemedicine Encounter Management Solutions (TEMS) TM, announces their telemedicine technology has enabled a school-based health center in Branch County Michigan, to detect medical issues in children early on and decrease emergency room visits to the local hospital.

The school-based telemedicine program is run by the Community Health Center of Branch County (CHC). The clinic has been using AMD’s Telmed ED (Telemedicine for Educational Deployment) system since January of this year to perform primary care services for acute illnesses such as strep throat, ear infections, rash and influenza. Recently, practitioners at the telemedicine clinic were able to identify medical issues such as cardiac abnormalities and musculoskeletal injuries in several children. Detecting these early on, allowed the clinic to order additional tests and get patients admitted directly to the appropriate departments within the hospital, without needing to go through the emergency room.

“We chose AMD’s Telemed ED because all the medical devices, software technology and point-to-point video capability was in one simple quality package and ready to go,” commented Theresa Gillette, RN and Program Manager at CHC. “It made what could have been a very long process, a very short and easy decision,” added Gillette.

The Telemed ED system includes a mobile cart that is equipped with specialty medical devices, an examination camera, a web camera and the software technology needed to share live medical images, video, and data with a remote physician or nurse for consultation.
