AMD Global Telemedicine Supports “MY Health-e-Schools” Program to Help Uninsured Children Receive Healthcare

Fundraiser Aims to Cover the Cost of Clinical Telemedicine Exams and Medications for Uninsured or Underinsured Children in Small Rural North Carolina Community

Chelmsford, MA, September 18, 2013 – AMD Global Telemedicine Inc. (AMD), the world’s leading supplier of clinical Telemedicine Encounter Management Solutions (TEMS) TM, announces their support of the Meds for Kids Kickball Tournament fundraiserorganized by the MY Health-e-Schools telemedicine program at the Center for Rural Health Innovation.

The Meds for Kids Kickball Tournament fundraiser will help MY Health-e-Schools cover the costs of seeing uninsured or underinsured children, as well as help pay for their necessary medications.  The fundraiser will be held on September 21, 2013 at the Riverside Park in Spruce Pine, North Carolina.

AMD Global Telemedicine is a “Home Run” sponsor of this event.  “MY Health-e-Schools program has made it easy for children to be seen by a healthcare provider without having to leave school for an appointment, and we support their outstanding use of telemedicine technology in this endeavor,” commented Steve Normandin, President of AMD Global Telemedicine.  “We couldn’t be more proud to be a part of the school-based telemedicine program at the Center for Rural Health Innovation,” added Normandin.

Dr. Steve North, President and Medical Director for the Center for Rural Health Innovation, developed MY Health-e-Schools program to benefit the children and this small community.  “About 8-10% of kids in Mitchell and Yancey Counties are still uninsured for a variety of reasons. A simple albuterol inhaler that could keep them out of the hospital, costs about $70.00 without insurance. Many parents of these children are put in an uncomfortable position of deciding between medications for one child, or putting food on the table for the family. Often the medication is not the priority, and the child gets sicker and ends up uninsured in the Emergency Room”, commented Dr. North.
