For two decades, AMD Global Telemedicine has been a leading supplier of telemedicine technology, devices and software.

Founded in January 1991 as American Medical Development, AMD Global Telemedicine has recently celebrated its 20th year as the world’s leading supplier of medical technology for clinical telemedicine.

AMD has achieved this milestone with its quality products, effective services and a respected commitment to its customers and partners. It has matured as a provider of medical devices, and its portfolio has expanded from telemedicine devices to including a complete offering of telemedicine encounter management solutions comprised of software solutions, clinical configurations, program consultation services and training programs.

Throughout the past two decades, AMD’s solutions have been installed at application sites ranging from NASA’s Space Shuttle, to the North Pole, to cross-town Manhattan.  Having grown to over 6,100 installations in 80 countries around the globe, AMD has delivered readily accessible healthcare for the first time to places like Nigeria, Ethiopia, Kenya, Greenland and the Maldives.

“In the 20 years we have been in business, AMD has seen the field of telemedicine grow and evolve.  In the early 1990’s a video conferencing system would consume a small room.  Today the massive video systems of the early 1990’s have been replaced with smaller more efficient systems and now PC’s can control telemedicine applications and deliver HD video and images,” stated AMD’s President Steve Normandin.

Leading the advancement of telemedicine technology and evolving customer needs has further strengthened AMD’s status.  “Over the past two decades, we have developed and delivered three generations of our Camera & Illumination system and we will continue to grow and develop new solutions as the need arises and new technology becomes available.”

AMD is not only a telemedicine technology expert but is an innovator in developing telemedicine encounter management systems and technologies for telemedicine. In 2010, AMD released it AGNES Medical Gateway, a telemedicine device aggregation appliance responsible for gathering and distributing patient medical information in real time and independent of any video conferencing system network.  “Web 2.0 applications like AMD’s AGNES are changing the way clinicians and doctors participate in the telemedicine experience.  AGNES’s Web 2.0 capabilities are primarily about the benefits of ease of use for both doctor and clinician,” stated John Cambray, AMD’s chief architect.

“Spurred by health care trends and technological advances, telemedicine is now entering the next generation and is growing into a mainstream industry.  While it has been around for many years, the buzz surrounding telemedicine has really increased recently,” Normandin explained.  “The telemedicine industry has made more progress in the last 20 months than in the previous 20 years, partly because there is a new generation of doctors who are much more exposed to technology and the need to deliver quality healthcare worldwide continues to grow.”

This rapidly growing field of telemedicine has also been driven by the addition of some major companies entering the telemedicine market.  “Within the last few years, significant companies, including major technology, networking and telecommunications organizations as well as insurance companies have begun to take interest in telemedicine and are starting to see the benefit telemedicine can bring.”

“As we move into our 21st year in business, we are proud to celebrate this milestone as it represents the enduring success of our team’s commitment to providing quality products, effective services and exceptional commitment to our customers,” said Normandin.
