Telemedicine Program Supports 600% Increase in Patient Volume

The partnership between AMD Global Telemedicine and US Telehealth supports the 600% increase in the number of inmates that need healthcare services in northern Louisiana’s state and parish prison facilities. AMD is providing the telemedicine equipment that resides onsite in the prison facilities and enables a remote physician to perform a patient exam. US Telehealth is orchestrating the physician services and clinic scheduling for routine check-ups, emergency consultations and scheduled visits.
“AMD’s telemedicine technology combined with US Telehealth services allow the Department to have up to 15 patients be seen by a specialized physician in only a four hour block of time,” commented Dr. Raman Singh, Medical and Mental Health Director at the Louisiana Department of Corrections. “The telemedicine technology improves access to care by providing the opportunity to have a meaningful patient encounter. All the medical images and assessment data is right there in one place and can be easily viewed by both parties. This solution is good for public safety and reduces costs by allowing some of the needed medical care to be delivered without the need to transport the patients outside of our facilities,” added Dr. Singh.
The AMD Global Telemedicine technologies used for this program deliver live medical images from connected medical devices and scopes, real-time video from an examination camera, and the ability to view patient documents and vital signs data all in the same online platform.
US Telehealth telemedicine services offer access to physicians that cover 16 medical specialties including primary care, ENT, neurology, pulmonology and endocrinology. These in-facility services reduce the need to take a prisoner to an outside medical facility for a clinical assessment, and help lower the risk of inmate escapes during medical transport.
